OSLO, NORWAY: Agilyx ASA, a technology firm that enables customers to recycle the most difficult post-use plastics to excessive value, virgin-equivalent products, introduced that Kumho Petrochemical (Kumho) and Technip Energies (T.EN) have signed an MOU to produce recycled styrene (RSM) using its patented conversion technology.
This MOU follows the earlier announcement of an RSM project using Agilyx technology and descriptions a cooperative relationship between the 2 events working towards profitable licensing of Agilyx’s conversion technology and the development of an RSM manufacturing plant in South Korea.
RSM is obtained from pyrolysis of waste polystyrene and can be utilized as a direct replacement for styrene produced from conventional fossil-based sources. It is anticipated that Kumho will use RSM within the manufacturing of solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR), a key component for the manufacture of tires, together with for the large volume, high-performance tire segment.
Kumho’s stated goal is to commercialize RSM merchandise starting in 2026. T.EN, the unique licensor for polystyrene pyrolysis enabled by Agilyx technology, will present support in all duties together with the switch of a technology license to Kumho.
